Halls Elementary School
Students in Tracie Taylor and Jessica Henson’s first grade classes at Halls Elementary School recently took a unique approach to planting pumpkins.
Students conducted a science experiment with pumpkins after visiting the Todd Family Fun Farm and getting the chance to explore and learn about a pumpkin patch.
Students were each given a pumpkin from the farm.
In class, students discussed the life cycle of pumpkins and learned how pumpkins grow. Teachers cut the tops off of each pumpkin and students added potting soil inside their pumpkins. The seeds that are already inside the pumpkin started to grow as students watered their pumpkins and kept them in sunlight.
Students were excited every day to come and see how much their pumpkin vines had grown!
U.S. Air Force SSgt Webb
visits Halls Elementary School
by Cindy Tomlin Coulston
Halls Elementary School kindergarten students recently hosted a special visitor.
Staff Sargeant Kevin Webb of the U.S. Air Force talked to the students about his job as a Loadmaster with the 61st Airlift Squadron at the air force base in Little Rock, Ark. Webb has served our country for nine years at various bases in the United States, Turkey , and Afghanistan.
SSgt Webb has a special interest in Halls Elementary because his niece, Miya, is a kindergarten student in Mrs. Bailey Turner’s class. He came wearing his uniform and brought a special helmet and other equipment he uses in his job as a Loadmaster for C130 airplanes.
Webb delivers fuel and food to American soldiers by dropping it from a plane with parachutes. Video clips of some of his fellow servicemen jumping out of an airplane with parachutes impressed the children.
The students enjoyed their special guest, who once was a Halls Elementary student, just like them.
Webb is married to Julie Webb and has a young son, Devin. His parents are Georgia and Van Webb of Ripley.
