Caution:

Brains Exposed to READING!

Students and teachers at Halls Elementary School recently showed off their “Read-ioactivity” by exposing themselves to the highly contagious reading zone in the HES library.

The spring Scholastic Book Fair offered a chance for these high voltage readers to earn new books for both their homes and the school library.

“It was our most successful fair ever!” said HES Librarian Beth Keen. “We collected $13,310.02 total. From that, the library was able to profit $2,972.96 in cash plus add 483 new books for the students to check out.”

The week before the book fair, students also participated in the “All for Books” program, which provides students with the opportunity to raise funds for the school library. This year’s program raised $961.14, with Keen allocating that money to purchase new library books at the fair.

Students in Kristen Throgmorton's third grade class were the top collectors in the “All for Books” program. The class received an ice cream party as a reward.

Is there a doctor in the house?

Students in Kathy Johnson’s second grade class at Halls Elementary School were asked just this question recently when students ‘scrubbed in’ for a lesson on contractions.

Johnson’s students donned surgical masks and gloves to perform surgery on two words and create contractions.

A fresh look creates 3-D art

Students in Kathy Johnson’s second grade class at Halls Elementary School recently took a different look at everyday items in their homes.

The students used objects they see every day to locate and describe the attributes of 3-D shapes. They then used their imagination to create artwork with the items.
