FBLA students win state competition

Members of the Ripley High School Future Business Leaders of America organization are on their way to compete nationally in Anaheim, California.

Sophomore T. J D. won first place in Cyber Security at both the regional and state competitions and sophomore Curt L. won first place in Technology Concepts at both the regional and state competitions.

Both students will travel to California this summer to compete on the national level.

Ripley JROTC Rifle Team takes State Championship

Members of the Ripley High School Army JROTC Rifle Teams won the Tennessee Shooting Sports Association State Championship on Saturday, April 13.

For the past six years, RHS shooters have ranked second behind the David Crocket Navy JROTC team at the state competition. This year, the Ripley team inched their rivals out of the coveted first place position.

Both teams shot a 2,042, so the championship was decided by the team completing the most bulls eyes. David Crocket shot 35 bulls eyes. Ripley hit 41.

Shooting for the Ripley A team were Hunter S. with a score of 525, Bradley H. with a 514, Caleb B. with a 493, and Ashley B., a senior and team captain, in her last competition, with a score of 510. Hunter's score earned him a medal for Individual Third Place out of 97 contestants.

On the Ripley B team were D Angelo Co. with a score of 492, Monica T. with a 485, Zach H. with a 454 and Wade W. with a 319.

The 2012-2013 academic year has been a historic one for the RHS shooters.

This year, the Ripley rifle team won its conference championship, the five state 7th Brigade Championship and now earned the stop spot in the state championship.

The RHS team has only has one more competition this season. The team will compete in the Daisy Nationals in Rogers, Ark. in July. Senior Army Instructor Major Hugh T. Cook said the RHS team is only losing one senior this year and he expects a strong team for the 2013-2014 academic year.
